Raised in Vancouver, Fox moved to Toronto in the mid-80's, where he developed his music through a series of bands, from original R&B to alternative to rockabilly, honing his songwriting skills along the way. His musical influences have ranged from Tom Petty to Steve Earle, James Taylor to Vince Gill, and the world at large.
After releasing two original albums (the first on Quantum Records, and second on True North/ Sony garnering a Juno nomination for "Best Male Vocalist"), Fox's songwriting ability caught the interest of Nashville publishers, with a style that crosses between and edgy "alt.country" and folk.
The past three years have found Fox co-writing with some of country music's best, and recording with artists ranging from Michelle Wright to Charlie Daniels. In 1998, Fox showcased in Toronto (Festivals & Events Ontario) and Nashville (where his performance during the Chet Atkins Musicians Days was filmed for the Bravo channel's special "Keeping the Music Alive"), and in Feb '99 at the Folk Alliance Conference in Albuquerque, NM and Canada's CCMA Conference in 1999 and 2000. His showcases caught the attention of numerous presenters, and Fox has been touring Canada on the casino, festival and club circuit throughout 1999/2000. His video, "I Just Don't Know Anymore", was released February 2000 and continues to be played on CMT.
Steve is now enjoying great success with his second country album "Small World". Steve will be touring the festival circuit throughout the summer of 2002, and participates in "The Songwriter Tour" this Fall, along with Lisa Brokop and Jamie Warren.
Modest and genuine, Fox has a certain magnetism ~ when he walks into a room, he changes it. With an open nature and an infectious sense of humour, Steve's stage presence is electrifying and his musicianship has earned him the admiration of his peers.

After Elisa Amsterdam sent a demo of Steve's songs to Alan Kates, Steve landed a publishing deal with Caribbean Stud (Alan Kates/Keith Stegall) in 1997, married Jan Henry and moved to Nashville
Recorded debut country album "Steve Fox" on AMI/Dead Reckoning, released Christmas 1998
1999 Montgomery Gentry released the single "Daddy Won't Sell the Farm", penned by Steve Fox and Robin Branda, hitting #13 on the Billboard charts and #1 on CMT. The single marked the first U.S. gold cut for Steve. The CD on which the song appears, "Tattoos and Scars", went platinum in 2001
March 1999: Fox captures four top 20 cuts in Canada simultaneously! Releases include his own cut "Down in the Mojave", "Same Things" recorded by the Poverty Plainsmen and "In the Middle of Something" recorded by Diane Chase.
February 2000 Steve and Jan Fox's pride and joy, Jack Henry Fox, is born
Summer 2000 saw Steve touring the country from coast to coast
September 2000 Steve Fox and Robin Branda won the 2000 CCMA SOCAN Song of the Year Award for "Daddy Won't Sell the Farm"
Steve was also nominated for the CCMA Rising Star Award, and his song "In the Middle of Something" was nominated for the best Independent Song award. Fox was also nominated in the Rising Star category in Ontario (OCPFA).

Steve recently appeared as a featured guest on Danny Hoopers "Barn Satellite Network" aired on CMT.
Current Activities:
Between it all, Steve, as always, is busy co-writing with some of County Music's best, including Canada's top country recording artists (watch for lots of Steve Fox co-writes coming soon on the albums of such artists as Beverley Mahood, Jamie Warren, Gil Grand, John Landry, and more!)
Steve completed recording of his next CD entitled "Small World", at Louis Sedmak's Studio in Edmonton, Alberta
The first single from the CD is "Couple on the Cake"; a duet with Beverley Mahood released to radio May 25th, 2000. This song includes additional recording, mixing and mastering with J. Richard Hutt at Cedartree Recording Studios, Kitchener
May 28th, Steve and Beverley shot the video for "Couple on the Cake", with award video and film director Terrance Odette -- the video features actor Leslie Nielsen and a hilarious plastic couple!
November 2001, released "Moving to a Small Town" - reaching #15 on BDS and #10 on TRAX chart, with the video hitting #8 on CMT.
March 18, 2002: Video for "Cheap Red Wine" debuts on CMT, with the single released to radio April 1st...coincidentally that's also the due date for Steve and Jan's second child!
