President, AMI Music
Songbridge
Jana with husband, Ger, at the CMW Indie Awards, Feb 2002
Jana's first job in the music industry was in Paramount Records Pressing plant in'79 as a summer job after graduating highschool with honours. From there she landed a job as a receptionist at Sound Canada's studios , run by Art Snider. Shortly thereafter she began to study Audio Engineering and used the studio on "down time" to demo her own songs with her band "Nasty Habits" (punk was in) .One of the demos landed in the hands of a band who had released some singles on "Boot Records" and they met with Jana right away and hired her as a vocalist and songwriter for the project. Their relationship lasted several years and musical incarnations. The band evolved from new wave, to country to a corporate cover band and eventually Jana left to form her own band Jana Reid and In Achord, which played the Toronto music scene for several years. She met Elisa in 1986 when Elisa offered to help track her new album it at radio ( vinyl was still in). Their paths have converged and parted over the years, but they became the closest of friends. Jana's versatility as a performer and writer had her doing the DuMaurier Jazz Festival one week and country bars the next. She studied opera for several years as a Contralto and continued to work on her songwriting. Acting was also a natural evolution for her and she landed the lead in several plays over the years in Toronto, London and Brighton and even tried her hand at stand up comedy! She won CD of the year from OCMA ( now ocpfa) in 96 and was also nominated for Best Female vocalist 2 years in a row.
Jana stopped her full time career as a performer in the mid 90s to raise her family and eventually became involved in all aspects of AMI's artist management and recording projects -- from coordinating recording, touring and promotional activites, to creating and booking tours such as "The Songwriters" (featuring Lisa Brokop, Steve Fox and Jamie Warren) and a second tour ( featuring Steve Fox, Diane Chase and Duane Steele) as well as the "Songs with Punchlines" tour ( featuring Wendell Ferguson, Nancy White and Roger James). With her training and experience of 27 years in many aspects of the industry she is uniquely qualified to help in tour coordination and to assist in AMI's recording and publishing efforts. Her years working industry, and knowing it's limitations, is what inspired Jana to launch the newest division of AMI, Songbridge.
www.thesongbridge.com will be on line Dec 05.
Jana continues to write scripts, music and performs in a jazz trio and local theatre.
